Area Law Enforcement
Around 50 vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's town of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Cars, building surfaces and mailboxes were defaced, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they reported in a official communication.
Law enforcement say they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a resident noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish fluid.
The fluid had been applied in the form of a swastika, they stated.
Law enforcement then located multiple other smeared automobiles and residential walls in the surrounding area.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation banning the public display of Nazi symbols.
Officials report initial examinations suggest the liquid was probably human blood.
"Currently there is no indication as to its source; investigators are presently not informed of any injuries in association with the event," they commented.
Local authorities announced they were trying "to unravel the case" and have asked to the residents for tips.
An important official commented the incident left him speechless and had to be addressed promptly.
"This event affects the center of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the right-wing violent incident five years ago," he posted on social media, recalling the death of nine victims by a shooter targeting residents of migrant background in five years prior.
